We had initially booked a presenter in to talk to us about the arctic and life in the north. He cancelled this due to family reasons. We, the teachers then came up with this plan to help support our learning. We booked CWRS (Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Center) to come and talk to us about owls and then we have booked an author from the arctic to come in January and speak to us. The first part is the CWRS on Wednesday, December 14th. We will be adding to our knowledge of owls that we have gotten from our research and the novel we are reading, Owls in the Family. Our class will be going to the presentation at 9am. Please see below a pamphlet from the CWRS. There is also a wish list if your family so wishes to donate or you can do it on your own time.

WISH LIST
The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society is always in need of food and other items required to care for the Wildlife that we receive at the Centre. Food needs vary depending on the animals that we have in at the time and are often perishables and storage is limited for supplies.
At this time we are asking schools and organizations who would like to collect donated items for the Centre to please do a Gift Card drive (stores listed below), a Canadian Tire Money drive or a Loonie/Toonie drive so that CWRS can purchase the food and items as needed to ensure there is no waste.
Stores that CWRS frequents to purchase food and supplies are as follows;
Superstore, Sobey’s
Wal-Mart , Canadian Tire,
Home Depot, Rona,
Staples, Co-Op,
Safeway
Hi, It’s the GIVE power hour.
Thank you to those who have brought in some deodorant for the “fill a sock, fill a need” program.
The charity we have chosen this month is the Calgary Drop-in center. We will be participating in “fill a sock, fill a need”. We will help bring joy to homeless Calgarians this holiday season. With your help 1200 men and woman will wake up to a stocking by their bedside on Christmas morning. You can help by bringing the following items:
socks grades 5/6, tooth brush /tooth paste from grade 3/4, grade 2 will be collecting deodorant, grade 1 will be collecting lip balm /lip gloss and kindergarten will be collecting hand sanitizer. Please bring all items to Mrs. McKay’s room by Wednesday December 14th.
Thanks for helping to make a difference this holiday season.
