Hello everyone,
Thinking Gum:
We have had a discussion about ‘thinking gum’ in the classroom. I do not have an issue with someone chewing small pieces of gum to help them focus upon their work. The rules are that they must remain seated, the gum is chewed quietly in the mouth, the gum stays in the mouth and we do not share it with others. The student is responsible for keeping it safe in their desk and using it as a tool to help them focus.
Social Studies
We have started discussing Urban and Rural communities with our students in the classroom. We started with a picture sort to identify what we may see in the different communities. The students were asked to share with their families some similarities and differences they saw in the pictures. The challenge yesterday was to draw a picture of themselves in an urban or rural setting and to bring it into class to share. We have had a few come in and would like a few more before Spring Break to share with the class.

What have we learned today:
Please note that we have changed our way of describing our day. Instead of sharing what we have done today, we are sharing what we may have learned personally or together as a large group.
Daily Challenge:
We shared each of our plans with each other. We even had some of our peers ask some “What if. . .?” questions to help us think further about our plans. We discovered that many of us had the same brain wave (thinking alike) and we were inspired by other plans like SZ thought about making her trap look like a house to try and trick the leprechaun into going inside.
Share with your family something that inspired you to think I could use that in my plan.

What have we learned today:
Please note that we have changed our way of describing our day. Instead of sharing what we have done today, we are sharing what we may have learned personally or together as a large group.
- We learned to be better super spies by not touching anything or making noise in the Mission Impossible activity in the gym. (CG)
- We learned how to listen carefully to music and try and guess which Peter and the Wolf character it was. (CS and LB)
- I learned about rural, suburban and urban in social studies. (SZ)
- I learned in music that if we have a competition then everyone needs to participate/sing if we want to win. (MJ-S)
- We learned to listen to other people’s ideas to see who has the same brain wave as me or to inspire me to make my plan better. (LO, KH, and CG)
- We are learning to make a nutritious dinner and figure out how much it costs. We will be using Cuisenaire rods as currency.
- We are learning about open and closed friendships. Closed friendships are like when we are having a play-date with a friend at home. Open friendships are like at school where everyone gets to play like a game of soccer or tag.
